Our Journey on Scolamanzi II

About Scolamanzi II

We have decided to create this site to chronicle our travels on SCOLAMANZI II – a Nordhavn 60 trawler yacht.

This website is mainly there to create a diary  to remind us where we have travelled.  Through our blogs we also hope to stay in touch with family and friends – old as well as new friends,  we meet along the way.

If interested our previous blog of Scolamanzi (the Leopard 4600)  can still be accessed on the current web through a link at

SCOLAMANZI II – A Nordhavn 60 Power Yacht : 2015

Henriette and I departed the BVI on the 5th of May 2012 bound for Bermuda as part of the ARC Europe Rally. During the leg to Bermuda we constantly had an AIS target on our chart plotter, but it was always out of visual range. It happened to be Cloudy Bay, a Nordhavn 55. She was heading back to the UK after her owners completed a 5 year cruise mostly along the west coast of North America. Upon our arrival at  St George Harbour in Bermuda, we dingied across to say G-day. The owners were kind enough to invite us aboard and show us around. The next day we joined them on a short cruise to Hamilton, Bermuda. That was where our interest in Nordhavn yachts were born!

After completing our second season of cruising in the Med on board Scolamanzi in October 2013, we decided to change tack – sell Scolamanzi and buy a powerboat to cruise the Pacific North West for a few years. A Nordhavn 60 was the natural choice of yacht for us, to cruise this area in comfort and safety.

We signed our Letter of Intent with PAE (Nordhavn builders) to build Scolamanzi II, a Nordhavn 60, in early 2013. South Coast Marine, who builds most Nordhavn yachts in Xiamen, China started laminating the hull in September 2013. She was finally completed by the yard on 13/2/2015 after 17 months.
